Spring 2026 Canvas Updates

Below are some new features that are available in our instance of Canvas.

New Feature Details

  • Surveys in New Quizzes. Surveys are now available New Quizzes making it easier to gather student feedback without leaving your course. Instructors can choose between anonymous or identifiable responses, depending on the goal of the survey. Surveys made in Classic Quiz will now import into New Quizzes.
  • Enhanced Rubrics can be turned on in courses. Canvas Enhanced Rubrics offer instructors a more flexible, modern rubric-building experience. This feature is not on by default in a course but can be turned on by doing the following:
    1. In a Canvas course go to the Course Navigation click on Settings
    2. Select Feature Options tab
    3. Search for “Enhanced Rubrics”
    4. Change the state from Disabled to Enabled
      • A green check mark will appear when the feature is enabled.
  • Scheduled feedback available in Gradebook. In the Gradebook, instructors can manage the visibility of grades and feedback for individual assignments. By default, scores and comments are released together, but instructors can schedule them to release separately.This feature provides instructors with greater flexibility and control over feedback timing, allowing them to align the release of rubric scores and comments with grading workflows, review sessions, or instructional pacing.
  • Differentiation Tags are now enabled. Differentiation Tags allows instructors to create custom sets of students within a course. For example a tag to track students who require accommodations. These sets are hidden from students and can be used for various organizational and instructional purposes. Tags can be used when assigning assignments, quizzes, modules and are visible in the Gradebook.
