What is Sites@UMW? #
Sites@UMW is a publishing platform available to any member of the University of Mary Washington community. Built with the open-source software WordPress, it allows any faculty member, student, or staff employee to create a blog, a course or project site to begin building their web presence. It is a fast and easy way to get started with WordPress and minimizes the amount of administrative work because updates are handled by Sites@UMW admins.
What can I do with Sites@UMW? #
Whether you are starting this account for a class or for your own project here are some examples of what you can do:
- Start a blog
- WordPress was originally designed to meet the blogging needs of the Web 2.0 days. Out of the box default in WordPress encourage layout the site to display most recent posts.
- Create a project site
- Whether you are a creating something for a class or your club, WordPress can be used to organized your sites content in to easily navigable website.
We also have another platform, Domain of One’s Own (DoOO), that might be a good fit for your project. If you need more control over the look and feel of your website or would like to use something other than WordPress than Domain of One’s Own might be a good fit for you.
